My Third Place Prize is an entry from Art (Dr. No)
- who is showing NO watch but we all KNOW he is wearing one
- we are pretty sure it's an OMEGA watch
- he's not waving it in her face to catch her attention so he and the watch are not show-offish (well ok, the picture in general undermines this point)
- we are wondering WHAT is that hand doing?
So I entitled this the Dr. NO NO watch. It's a mystery... would he (or we) buy the same again if he had to start over?
Second Place Prize goes to Abel who perfectly encapsulated PANERAI in his photo.
- tanned arm/greenery=outdoor watch for an outdoor guy
- simplified markers and lume=this is Business, not Pretense
- fixed bezel=fewer things to go wrong
- bulky watch=water resistance sports item
- funky crown protection="serious" about water sports
- massive strap=he is not losing this watch due to any flimsy attachment coming apart!
- colorful non-factory strap=easily swapped, in fact the essence of PAM adoration is a strap fetish that most owners succumb to
Abel, you are very hard to compete with!
First Prize goes to JML for his very enigmatic photo. Continuing in my psychological and detail exposition of the images (as above), in this case I deduce:
- judging on skin color, he lives in a rainy climate and doesn't get much sun (unlike Abel)
- drives a manual transmission, right-hand-drive car so he's older or a contrarian guy, and lives in the UK
- he's got classical style, with his herringbone wool shirt and driving gloves
- he's not a flashy "look at me!" guy, as this Nomos is a no-nonsense, get-down-to-business watch
- the lighting and composition makes his watch the center of our attention
Having said all that, I have a similar Nomos and I guess I would not buy it again on the second go-around ... but everyone could benefit by having one, once, as it's reliable, affordable, and has its own minimalist style.
But the Grand Prize for the weekend goes to our host, who despite being in the midst of changing countries, apartments and with his whole life in turmoil due to political pressures beyond his control,
STILL has the charm to lead our contest this weekend.
Of course I was knocked off my feet by the beauty of his VC. We all were, I am sure. But he said it wasn't an entry so we must overlook it. But we can LOOK at it again...
{OK, stop searching on Chrono24 for similar watches and come back for my final selection please!}
As a Seiko fan and moderator, I must admit I really like his Seiko chrono that most of us (including myself) have never seen in the real work, and few could find and buy.
This photo with great composition and positioning of the hands turns our watch expectations upside down!
What an excellent watch to own in a newly-constituted collection!
Thank you for such a challenging contest theme.
