Magnus may have the lead on this one...

Since I first encouraged John to post his points, I have asked RD for comments and, ideally, some in-depth explanation. Since Purists is official partner, I hold no illusions who will have first dibs on the drawings. ;-)

Very happy to have encouraged this thread, I'll throw in a side note which came from our friends at Greubel Forsey: timing the actual performance of a mechanical watch with more than one ticking organ is... today... impossible. The existing timing machines have been designed with one power train in mind and since the double/quad tourbillons have come to existnace, GF have been struggling to address this. I was told they are looking into different means to tackle this timing challenge, including some high frame rate optical and/or laser probes that can capture, record and most of all "interpret" multiple sources and their accuracy.

What comes out of these endeavors is still to be seen but factually, today we are not in the position to objectively measure and document the precision of watches with multiple balance wheels. Any benefits or challenges posed by using multiple balance wheels or tourbillons is fair game, subject to speculation. Showmanship, perhaps, but what a show!!!

Thanks for the thread, John and it was very nice to meet Magnus and Olivier at SIHH!

Cheers
