WatchTech

May be possible in the future commercially but...

3D printing today has a few problems to overcome:

* accuracy - you can make parts to within 0.010 in (254 microns) or so. Most watch parts need higher accuracy than this.
* mechanical strength -  metal parts by 3D don't have full strength due to porosity etc and not all metals can be made this way either.
* finish - parts made by this way will still need grinding, polishing etc to give the surface treatments used in watches.
* speed - while fairly intricate geometries can be made, it is a slower process compared to "subtractive" processes.
So there are parts in a watch that could be made this way today but more for a prototyping application than prototyping.
