Some random thoughts

First of all, great to be in a position to chose between what are definitively two very nice VCs.

Some random thoughts from my side:

1/ the traditionelle is a very understated watch which shines with its finishing, movement, timelessness and still manage to fly under the radar.
All its versions are nice and preference vary, from the great WG, the more classical old-school RG, the platinum version with its matte ´grey dial and various LEs (be it japan version or CEP)

2/ The CEP version of the traditionelle is a very nice version thereof, taking it up a notch … putting it on a brown or grey strap, Oneida’s the ultimate ‚below the radar‘ watch, with its reassuring weight and the feeling that only its owner really knows what he/she is wearing. If that something that appeals to you, its a very great choice.

3/ The 1921 is also very nice on another direction: it reminisce of the past and the glorious / roaring 20‘s. There you are more sure to get interest and questions.

4/ to summarize: The traditionelle is probably one of the best dress-watch on market (for some it is classy and some might see it as borderline boring). The 1921 is a great Historiques incarnation and some might say it is too flamboyant and might gets tiring.

5/ My very personal summary: I would take a traditionelle over a 1921 because of my personal preferences, also because of where I work / how I dress, and because I was looking for a Traditionelle dress watch within my collection. It is not to say that I don’t like the 1921, because I do like it a lot. Also had the chance to see it on the wrist of a gentleman recently during a VC event and I really appreciated it. I didn’t buy it (yet?) because I was less sure of when I would wear it … and a small part of my brains was saying that it has the same movement (4400 IIRC) that two other of my watches. It is not to say never🤨.

Hope it helps and wish you all the best with your tough dilemma

Best regards,
Jerome

Love it. This fine grained platinum dial and the overall package. So stealth yet so good.

I'm sure the weight of the platinum on the wrist is an added joy.

Indeed

Yes, the weight is perfect. Reminder that you have it without being overbearing. Also having switched the strap from blue to brown make it even more stealth! J

Magnificent.

There is a world beyond rare handcraft pieces I promised 😅 Even though I must confess that you are a dangerous enabler; or to speak using the language of mathematics, P (moving towards rare handcrafts / reading your forum) is definitely higher than it was...

Many thanks Jerome, I'm not entirely sure if my forum is to "thank" or to "blame" for the popularity of Rare Handcrafts....but I genuinely appreciate it! ;-)))

Seriously, I did notice your interest recently, and (needless to say) it would be *amazing* if one day you decided to add a RH to your terrific collection! Cheers my friend.

Great choice Jerome! Quite smitten with this one!

Not sure with this dial color but in general white metals are strap friendly! I can get away with almost any color on my RG traditionnelle so don’t be afraid to try a color you feel like trying…nothing specific comes to mind but…

Grey, dark green, dark blue, red (!), … you could also consider the leather type. Instead of alligator try some textured calfskin or staffiano leather….

Was wondering the same prior to buying it …

And the answer is a clear no as it is quite discrete on the “twinkling” dial Actually the element which jumps out of the dial is more the blued small second, Jerome

Thanks count !

Very much in honeymoon phase here; time only watch reduced to the max, weighty presence of platinum in a stealthy guise, the discrete “twinkling” of dial, a great movement, and a relative rarity … 🥰 Will continue to experiment with straps (following the l...

Couldn’t agree with you more!

Dear Jerome, I like you taste for VC watches and you seem to pair them with style. thank you for sharing. I am considering trading-in a Historiques 1921 36,5mm in WG for the Traditionnelle Excellence Platine. Would you share your insights on that? Thanks

Thank you for your ithoughts, Jerôme I was leaning towards the Excellence Platine watch when I saw it, but the added hurdle dealing with the trade-in and the fact that I had my 1921 new with nice memories associated with the experience, made me further ap...

Fully agree with you that the memories made with the watches are as important as the machines themselves Hope you can soon fulfill your quest with the 222! Cheers, Jerome
