That year is the earliest reference to this watch I can find on the forum, although the 50 year anniversary of Sputnik would be 2007 as you note. There are a few past auction listings and 10 pieces is a bunch, so maybe someday one will be yours!
Edit: now I'm very curious why the descriptions of this watch usually state "circa 2007" as the date of manufacture, but perhaps they were released over a period of a few years. This snip from an auction website includes the original certificate which clearly shows 2007.
