I really like your glass analogy!
I do like how a nice glass feels against the lip. I like my glasses to be a bit thinner. For my morning tea, I once had a thick rimmed mug which was very heavy, and switching to a thinner Japanese mug or a German Demitasse has made drinking tea more enjoyable. Here are some ornate Lalique photos. I like the intricacy of the design here. I find it makes the beverage very visually interesting and makes me want to drink it more! Maybe that makes me like the drink more automatically?
As far as jeweled watches go - I'm more thinking about the practical side of things - the scratch resistance to me is great. But the significant price increase doesn't always feel justified to me. Also, small diamonds aren't rare, so I feel I'm paying more for fabrication and design rather than for a real big rare stone.

Personally, while I like jeweled watches - I can't justify the additional expense. Although I really like the idea of a jeweled clasp since the clasp is sometimes scratched more heavily than the rest of the watch.
