I just picked this up today.......

I've wanted the Malte Chronograph for a long time and almost bought one around 10 years ago but as usual something else came up. I was considering a 39 mm white gold Royal Oak Chronograph and as I was looking for one I came across this Malte Chrono during my search. Seeing the pictures made me not want to pass it up twice so here we are!
This piece is even better looking in person and is probably my favorite modern VC chrono, it holds up real well against the original 1815 Chronograph too which would be its closest competitor along with Patek's 5070. Both the Lange & VC were produced in 2004 and both were in production for 5 years or less. The Lange is a little more collectable though as there were only a few hundred made in white gold. It also seems that this VC is easier to find in the secondary.....
The Lange wins in the movement department.....
I do like the looks of VC's dial a little better though. Im a sucker for that waved dial pattern that is also prevelant in the second generation Overseas models....
We'll see made someday made I'll add the 5070G. Its the most collectable of the three but I always thought the VC & Lange were sharper looking.

Texture of dial is great and love the color, movement is to die for.
Thanks Nicolas......

Those photos of yours are what got me interested in the watch to begin with 10 plus years ago!
Beautiful piece!

If I were considering a Lange chronograph or a VC one, which would you recommend? What are the strengths of each? The Lange seems to have slightly better finishing and a better pusher feel. But the Lange also seems to be much thicker.
Thanks Patrick!

To my eye the finishing is pretty close, Lange's movement is definitely more interesting though. The Lange's chrono function is smoother as well but it's also more of a pain in the butt to wind because of its smallish crown. The thickness between the two ...
Thank you for the advice!

I was expecting the Vacheron to be thinner. I guess that's not necessarily the case! I have a feeling that anything sold ten years ago would probably be a bit of a tricky situation today! Thank you so much for the advice TonyR! And great to see your post!...
Here is a shot of the Datograph, 1815 Chrono, & Malte Chrono stacked.....

The VC is on the bottom the Datograph is on the top. As you can see the VC and 1815 Chrono are about the same thickness. The VC actually appears to be a little thicker than the 1815 Chrono....... Then the obligatory shot of all three!....... I hope that's...
Very helpful photos! Thank you!

Hmm, they might all be a bit thick for my normal tastes. Then again, I could make an exception if it's not a daily wearing piece.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've tried on the Datograph before and I found the strap uncomfortable and overly thick. But that movement was nothing short of amazing. I'm leaning more towards the Vacheron Constantin. It's thinner and more elegant. But something about the haptic feedba...
Very nice...

I'm not a huge fan of chronos myself, but the VC has a very unique look, and the dial work is fantastic. Enjoy it.
I agree watches are not a good investment!......

In the end you have to get very lucky but I'll still try! That is interesting point of view on the Duometre, I really like the 1st white gold version that they released in the series. I'll have to put that one on my list to own one day as well. Your right...
Stunning watches, which one do you like better?
By: TonyR : August 19th, 2020-18:24
As I mentioned before, I'm a fan of the black dial in wg but could handle the platinum version too! One of the online sellers that I've bought a few pieces from over the years had a wg one for sale at the same time that I bought the Malte Chrono I conside...
Thanks Boris.....
