Carpe Diem
I went in to 2005 planning to celebrate Vacheron Constantin's 250th anniversary by purchasing two Vacheron Constantin watches. One was definitely going to be the Jubile 1755, and I succeeding in doing this that summer.
The pattern on the dial was created for the exclusive use in the 250th anniversary collection. It is magnificent.
I also intended to purchase a watch at Antiquorum's fantastic auction that year. The catalog is in itself a collectible item worth seeking out.
But part of the joy of being a collector is coming upon a piece that you have been seeking out for a long time but had not found. When a platinum Mercator had come available to me early in 2005 I just had to jump on it, even knowing that the opportunity cost would preclude my being able to purchase a watch at the auction, just a couple of months away. That watch was this:
No regrets: I would eventually come to own examples of watches that I desired from that catalog. There is always a
next watch.
