While poking around the official VC website today, in particular the FiftySix collection, I was amazed to find a new photo uploaded only yesterday. Those that recall the launch of this new line in January will recall that inspiration for the case style was attributed to the ref 6073 Automatic, with its distinctive quarter-Maltese Cross lugs. The "new" photo is indeed of a ref 6073, but one quite different than any other you have seen before or are likely to see. Dear reader, having already plowed through this article, I leave it to you to share my astonishment:

With its curved "AUTOMATIC" script and Maltese lugs, this model should date from 1955. This would fit with the introduction of the cal 1019 centre-seconds automatic in 1956, which signalled the end of V&C's sub-second automatics. That is, at least until the FiftySix line takes advantage of features already present in the base cal 1326 for a sub-seconds indication ;-)
