Ulysse Nardin Marine 1846
Jun 18, 2020,09:13 AM
This piece was released in 2017, and was advertised as a tribute to the 1996 version (which marked the 150th Anniversary of the brand). It was seemingly produced in very limited numbers, this one sat alone in the UN vault here in the US and the watch has been out of production for some time. I have considered it frequently since its launch, now the timing was right and I grabbed it.
41mm polished steel case, Grand Feu enamel dial and the UN-118 caliber. I am not at all bothered by the date with this auto movement. I would prefer an open caseback to admire the motor. I received it with 2 dark blue straps, and elected to use the textile strap with white accent stitches. A nice nautical touch. The other strap is a beautiful gator. Aside from the spectacular enamel dial and blued hands, my favorite detail is the wide, tapered inner bezel. Just like the real ship's chronometers, I will add some comparison photos in the future.
I always laud Ulysse Nardin for their technical marvels - Freak, Sonata, etc. But the marine line is so much the essence of the brand. Glad to bring this one aboard ;-)
