My favorites

Thanks Marcus,

I would agree with you on the Freak and the Hourstriker attraction, due to the unique nature of the pieces, and the scarcity and inherent innovative nature.

Let me give you my view :

*  The platinum GMT Perpetual -  To me this is a special piece.  It was the limited edition produced when the standard gold issue was 38mm.  This one is 40mm which fits me perfectly.  There are small details, like the convex bezel vs. the concave standard, and it may be the most functional piece of the lot.  I love the heft that platinum brings and to me it is just special.

*  The platinum San Marco Gigante -  This piece is reasonably low production (200 pieces) although I think truely limited and rare editions are lower than this, but to me the anthracite dial and platinum are perfect together.  It has quite a good weight as well and serves both in dressier and casual situations (or maybe I just think so).  At 40mm it earned the name Gigante in the day, but would be average at best in this period.

* The Rose Gold Hourstriker -  This is piece #1 and has the Lapiz dial.  It is perhaps the piece I would refer to as a showpiece given the automaton and rare features.  My friend and dealer for nearly every UN piece I own convinced me to buy this and I'm glad he did.  At 42mm it pushes the size envelope for me, but I still enjoy it.  I quite prefer this size and square pushers to the last variant.

*  The White Gold Freak -  My first "high end piece" and one that I will never get rid of.  Completely original.  I bought it on a whim after finding my dealer with one just after announcement (was it 2001? I would have to look).  It was in the first delivery batch to the USA and the original price was great vs. where it went to months later.  I still like the white over the rose, but both are simply spectacular.  I don't where it often, but even now as it approaches 10 years old in another year or two, I've had no problems with it and I'm glad I've not had to do the "conversion" to 1.5.

*  The Ships Chronometer -  Took me a few years to find one.  To me, while I can't wear it on my wrist, it really embodies UN.

*  The "Blues":  I have the Blue Max, Blue Wave, Blue Surf and Blue Marine Chronometer all with the same serial number.  One of the benefits of buying from an AD.  All great pieces.  I will say I've found the last few years issues with Blue Seal, Black Surf, etc. a bit disappointing as they are simply asthetic changes.

*  The Berlins 1 & 2 -  Very hard to find, but they must have made quite a few.  I'm glad I have both variants, but would like to find a gold one some day.

Lastly, I dream of the Jungle (now Safari) minute repeater and the trilogy set.  The latter to me is the epitome.
