We would likewise typically visit Maui each winter to bask in the sun and see old friends who reside there.
However, we haven't been back since the catastrophic fires, in part because we felt it would be somehow disrespectful to descend upon an island deep in mourning and recovery. Our first trip back in years is coming up in February, and we're hoping spirits on the island have rebounded some.

We were back once since the fires, and stayed on both the Kaanapali side and the Wailea side and it did feel different, especially on the Kaanapali/Lahaina side.

It's such a difficult situation for Hawaiians. No real type of industry other than tourism and I get that people get tired of "visitors" all the time.
