Vehicle batteries
Hi Patrick,
I am sure that all the cases of normal usage are well taken care of in the vehicle.
It is the cases of component failure that give me headaches. Failures do happen and I prefer if they are not catastrophic.
These batteries should not produce more heat during charging than discharging.
My laptop charges in just over an hour and the batteries hardly warm up. These are the same type of batteries used in the Tesla.
We are talking Li-Ion and not NiMH or NiCd which are a whole different can of worms, they do get hot and the end of charge.
We are all still longing and waiting for an acceptable battery to show up.
High capacity, low weight, good security.
Up 'til now the trade-offs are still too big to make viable vehicles.
But the whole world of electrochemistry is racing to find a solution.
For the people whole first find that solution there will be riches!

This is the domain where I have a small amount of competence, my bread and butter job. Written about 6 months ago my conclusion was: " The Tesla Roadster may get 365 km Reichweite under certain circomstances (note the 450kg battery weight) and charging in...
