The Isle of Wight and I have a horological connection.

The Audemars Piguet calibre 2003 (Vacheron & Constantin 1003) is 'ultra thin'. Actually, 1.64mm (yes, one point six four millimetres). To have mine serviced, I looked for a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI) and found one on … the Isle of Wight. Like many watchmakers, he was slow. Blaming the island's poor roads, he was even slower after he crashed his motorbike and it was a year before I saw my watch again.
Since then, while on holiday in Portsmouth - go to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, not least to see the Italian maiale - we went to the Isle of Wight on the hovercraft (a 'must do') in order to visit Queen Victoria's Osborne House (highly recommended and a good place for lunch).
However, just be prepared for everything to be a bit slow.
