tail docking in UK is now illegal unless the puppy is intended as a working gundog
my 2 German Shorthaired Pointers, born in 2002 and 2003 before the ban both had docked tails as did all their breed. there were very strict rules for doing it within the first few days and by a qualified vet.
whatever we think about it, i have seen pictures of gundogs with some horrendously injured tails after running through brush and brambles. this didnt happen with a docked tail, but on the other side, a dogs tail is an essential communication device so docking does hinder their communication.
a good excuse for an old pic of my babies, now passed on.
