Ducatis do need more maintenance and care-taking of .... though my Ducati-dealing friend will tell you they don't ..
I remember us setting the desmo-system on Ducatis the correct way (had been done the wrong way by other dealers) and the gain in power was tremendous, so you can imagine the durability really depends on this correct setting.
I even know an Italian guy (yes he lives here in Belgium and he only speaks Italian) riding his 1992 Ducati 888 every single day (his leathers do look a bit nasty by now) and he has covered way over 100,000 kilometers without serious problems, however i do believe the cost compared to a 1992 Honda Fireblade could be more than double.
Aahh, if you ride a Ducati, there's nothing else you're going to wish for

Thanks for the new update but not surprising if you look at Ducati's past ownership history. The bigger issue is the teams are not getting parts in time for the races. Looks like another tough year for them in racing. -MW

Been reading about how parts for the GP12 will not be ready until May. It was always every Rossi fan's dram that he would ride an Italian bike, now it finally happens but their prospects don't look good. Hopefully we get some exciting races this year. -MW
