Nope ...

This a a quite rare 748 SP.
Another one of the magic 748/916/996/998 line i got to try out.
It’s difficult to compare to the others as i have been riding these things since 1994.
I still remember back in 1994 when the 916 came out, my friend gave me the keys to a brandnew one .... but not the regular one. Actually one of the very first produced 916 SP with the full Ohlins suspension and stronger engine. Imagine the ‘normal’ 916 back then already blowing away evrything on the roads those days ... cars included 😃. And even before it was on the roads they give you a sports proction SP 😂😂😂. Surreal for sure, I couldn’t believe how this handled.
Later on i tried the regular 916 and 748, the 748 felt a bit blunt tbh ... the power of the 916 was perfect.
In 1997 my best friend bought a 916 SPS with the first 996cc engine. I took that bike out on several occasions, we added magnesium wheels and a real factory superbike rear armin magnesium. Much bigger 50 mm Termignoni exhausts and it went like nuts and was stable at 270+ with very strong sidewinds ... actually you didn’t even notice a storm for that matter.
A bit later my Ducati dealing friend gave me a brandnew 748R with a slipper clutch ... again a leap forward in riding quality and power for a 750cc at least.
I tried the regular 996 a couple of times, but back in 2014 i tried a 996 just after riding a 1199 Panigale ... 🥶🥶🥶.
So now in 2021, 27 years after my first ride on the 916SP i tried the above 748SP ... and it felt so extremely slow, especially under 7000 rpm. Above that it really went well and the sound is totally fabulous.
Honestly... i’ll have a 916 above any bike.
