Brasserie Lipp, Geneva

This is an upmarket brasserie in the heart of the old town shopping district. Somewhere to escape to after a day of watch boutique crawling. I had an early dinner before the crowds and enjoyed the attention of the waiters. Excellent fresh seafood and beef dishes and a warm environment.

Roasted scallops with lobster sauce on a leek lace biscuit

Double grilled entrecote with tarragon butter, crushed black pepper, seasonal vegetables and French fries

The waiter specifically asked me to try the Guerande Fleur de sel (“flower of salt”) which came from his home town, Guerande on the west coast of France. It is scraped by hand from the top layer of salt on the natural seawater salt pans. The locals have been collecting salt here since the ninth century. And this salt was a revelation when added to the beef. The flavours of the meet just exploded in the mouth. I cannot recommend it too highly.

I've been here twice, back in 2008 and 2012. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, their seafood is really good. Thanks for sharing the pics and bringing back fond memories of the place. -MW

Brasserie Lipp-Paris

From the unique, to me , name I would assume the Geneva brasserie is related in some way to Lipp in the 6th in Paris. Nicholas may be able to confirm or dispel this notion.

I've been to both; no relation whatsoever other than the name (and I think the Geneva Lipp is much, much better - the Paris one has a certain history, but the food and service leave something to be desired).

I actually did a salt tasting at a local gourmet specialty store. It's amazing how many different salts there are, and the variations in texture, flavor, color you can find. Cheers, Daos
