Hi Daos,
amazing to learn about your detailed comprehension of the Bond films!
I always considered myself to be pretty knowledgable in that field, having seen most films a couple of times, but I have the strong suspicion, you are even better!
I must admit, I didn´t even watch the last Bond movie as I was very disappointed by "Casino Royale": too much explosives, extremely rapid sequences, too much fighting, unconvincing plot. Daniel Craig did a good job though.
To be frank, I could not really give you my hitlist of Bond actors, as I like particular properties in each of them:
Sean Connery gives the hard-boiled agent, very physical in his presence, occasionally even brutal;
George Lazenby was handsome (although a bit irritating with his mole) and had the disadvantage of acting in a quite strange plot, but lovely scenery;
Roger Moore is extremely funny and you hardly believe, he could actually knock someone out;
Timothy Dalton is very expressive, "human" and convincing in his physical acting;
Pierce Brosnan is quite similar, but pyrotechnics come into play more and more and
Daniel Craig suffers from the overwhelming action stuff that covers up a lot of his acting.
The EON problem really is to find convincing themes, larger-than-life villains, fascinating spots that have not been already shown and with each leading actor they reinvent another Bond character.
To be PC, Bond does not smoke and does no more fuss about with the girls any more - I wait for him to be forbidden his shaken Wodka-Martini!
Probably the myth has outlived itself? Certainly not if you look at the box office numbers, but the vintage Bond fans seem to console themselves with the "good old" Connery and Moore productions.
Or am I simple getting older and more attached?
I´ll watch an old one this weekend!
Best regards,
anaesdoc
