TimeOut

another piece of interest Frederick...

another piece of interest Frederick is that the
book next too it is about the 17th/21st Lancers who, shortly after i left the
army were amalgamated(i can spell it today) with the 16th/5th Lancers to form
the Queens Royal Lancers. the british cavalry regiments are a very small world.
my first director of music when i was a junior soldier ended up as director of
music(Lt Col) of the blues and royals and my last bandmaster is currently
director of music(Lt Col) of the grenadier guards.

you probably already kow this, but the 17th/21st
Lancers were the only regiment not to have a cap badge. instead they wore a
'motto' the skull and crossbones which is why they are referred to as 'the
boneheads'.

i think your period of history is the most
interesting. since the 80's and the end of the falklands the regiments have been
amalgamated and depleted to the point where they are barely recognisable which
is why we find our selves under strength and overstretched in todays conflict
zones.

if you want any titbits of info on many of the
cavalry regiments just ask as its all stored away at the back of my brain
somewhere :))

best
