Whenever I'm in Narita Airport (Tokyo), I always visit the two Star Alliance lounges; the ANA lounge that serves the hot udon (I normally get the wild vegetable and udon) and also serves the cold Fauchon Paris ice cream. After visiting the ANA lounge, I do some airport shopping and I end up at the Red Carpet Club (United Airlines) where I always take a shower to freshen up for my flight (they offer a nice amenity kit from H2O spa they used to offer one from NOMAD, a Crabtree product some years ago).
My most recent trip from SFO (San Francisco) to NRT left me with a terrible impression regarding airline food. A warning to all, do not fly Economy out of SFO. I specified the BBQ chicken which was tiny bits of poor pieces of chicken (mostly skin and fat) that were the size and thickness of my fingernail swimming in a giant pool of salty BBQ sauce with a bit of rice and soggy vegetables. I took one bite and decided I literally would not eat another bite unless I was truly starving. Fellow friends, you have been warned about the food for Economy passengers flying out of SFO.
I must say, my most delightful experience has still been with the beloved German airline, Lufthansa. I've always enjoyed flying with them since my first trip with them when I was only ten years of age.
Stephen, you've got to go to the Lufthansa First Class Terminal. This is a separate autonomous terminal at Frankfurt where there is a full-service restaurant (with good food such as steak, foie gras, truffles, excellent wine, excellent spirits, etc.), a cigar room, bathing facilities, and there's even a Mercedes S320 CDI LWB or a Porsche Cayenne S vehicle to take you and your luggage to your awaiting airplane. Now, I simply love traveling through Frankfurt.
I hope you had a nice trip. At least you weren't going hungry on the plane.
