We were in Maui in the Spring of 2020 when Covid was shutting down places and Hawaii was essentially closing. We missed the trip in the Fall we usually take but we decided to chance it and go for Christmas. There were a lot of restriction and a lot of clo...  

However, we haven't been back since the catastrophic fires, in part because we felt it would be somehow disrespectful to descend upon an island deep in mourning and recovery. Our first trip back in years is coming up in February, and we're hoping spirits ...  

It really felt like some of the magic of the island has disappeared. Could be all in our heads though. Obviously the fires impacted a lot of the people who live there which creates a great sadness over the area. Like you say it's hard to "vacation" when o...

all the people who’s livelihood depends on tourism. There are many places in the world that get too many tourists.

It's a complex problem. It's like if a person lived anywhere USA, and had to take in borders in order to make their mortgage payments. So on the one hand you need them and on the other hand you get sick of people in your home. But there's no way out. And ...
