This afternoon I saw, for the second time in my life, an "iridescent cloud"

but, unlike the first time, some twenty years ago, today I had the phone ready to capture the show (not a camera... but at least I managed to photograph this wonder!). An enchantment of colors, a true wonder... The images are poor but the emotion of the s...

Hello Nassi

Never saw something like this. Where were you to see that??? What are the required conditions to observe a such phenomenon? Best wishes

We were in the nursery garden,

for the year-end party of the kids, nothing more normal! I haven't the slightest idea of how you can "predict" such a thing, as it is done for the rainbow. I consider it ... a gift! Thanks for looking, massi

Hi Massimiliano

You used the perfect word to describe a such phenomenon: "a gift" Thank you for the picture and post which gave me the opportunity to discover this "gift" ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

Is that real?

If so that's really cool Massi, never new that this happens. Even more impressive is that you were able to capture it! Does it change shape or colors? Or is it like a rainbow where it's a defined shape and then disappears? -MW

Hi Ming! Incredibile, isn't it?! This is exactly like a ordinary cloud, the difference is only the colors: strong, vivid...

I think that the phenomenon lasted about ten minutes, not more. Then the colors began to fade and the cloud has become like the others who were present at the same time. Very nice moment indeed! Best, massi

Made made look in Internet for it. Qt Iridescent clouds are a diffraction phenomenon caused by small water droplets or small ice crystals individually scattering light. Larger ice crystals produce halos. If parts of clouds have small droplets or crystals ...

Agreed! :-) [nt]
