Apartments All Over Again

We walked and drove around some new apartment complexes that are intended to reduce a housing shortage and end homelessness. But opinions are mixed on both theories. I know many here in Singapore, Hong Kong and other large cities must live in high-rise type buildings, but it’s foreign to the Southern California lifestyle. We have low-rise, spread-out, plant-based living. Enough of this, let’s see what we saw…

Cactus Confronts California Concrete

High on the hill, this giant spiderweb was spanning the condominium complex walkway

while detail shows a bee wrapped for long-term storage.

A bright Saab takes our mind off the bee’s sob

This is a very rare beast nowadays!

It’s clear this guy puts his money into his truck and not his home.

He needs Huck Finn to come along and paint his fence.

Kitty agrees the house could use some work.

A closer view over the rooftops… looking S from the N rim of Mission Valley. These tenants have no picket fences, leaky roofs or pests to occupy their time and budgets.

Turning westward, we see bare ground soon to be several thousands units, and in the foreground a number of 5-6 story complexes sunken into the hillside below the high-voltage wires,

which form a red-tailed hawk obstacle course - penalty for messing up is entanglement at least, if not worse.

Looking eastward.

This squirrel was as amazed as we were at all the activity below, and took to a big tree as we cruised back to our car.

We drove down the hill so we could be on the same level, but instead found ourselves dwarfed.

Only a mile westward and we are back into familiar territory. Low houses made of wood, sidewalks, cars parked casually, etc.

Redwood!

I can see this bike left out in front of a house, but not in front of the apartment building, if you know what I mean.

A block away we found this bike

and this tryke.

A wood-shingled apartment in the pines (as if in the mountains)

and a lovely runner wending her way through the trees.

OK, there are some features that add character (my view) or diminish the property values (according to the tax assessor).

We seem to have a surplus of old Fords!

We entered a condominium complex that sits in the valley, and found a lovely oasis!

We found some hummingbirds too, but they were fairly elusive today.

Lake looks idyllic but the trolley comes right through here at 15 minute intervals.

Thanks for walking with us.

PS after our walk we happened to pass by the Swatch store and were captivated by the Rings of Saturn!
