Wearing today after recent service and my adjustment of the regulator
Bought this Seiko 5 in early 1969 from a small jeweller in Changi village when I was flying into and out of Singapore on C130's. Ref: 6119B movement and 7100 on the case's back. Original bracelet, dial and hands. Was very accurate when new and was thus a popular watch bought among fellow aircrews passing through Singapore because of day/date feature when slipping aircraft at overnight stops in remote locations.
I admit day/date likely now spoils the dial. In late 1960's, coloured dials offered by Seiko became fashionable among my colleagues. I had to pay 25% duty on my return to UK because we had customs officers checking at my UK RAF transport base meeting incoming aeroplanes! I still have the box and papers.
Been wearing this Seiko for three days now and accuracy deviation is less than -1 1/2 seconds per day. There is no tang on the regulator, which makes fine adjusting a bit demanding. Average beat error over five positions is 0.44, which is not bad for a 56 years old watch!
The movement has no direct connection between the crown and mainspring. However, it only takes a couple of shakes to get going and soon winds up on the wrist.
I originally wore this for a few years, alternating with my Omega 1953 ref 2777 and then after my RAF retirement I bought other watches. This Seiko was then worn only when it substituted for a watch sent for service.
Design-wise I find the steel cushion shape and case's thickness a bit unfashionable now, but as a "tool" watch it was very functional and robust.
I like the round gilt finish of yours and that justifies the fitting of a PP strap. I have a PP strap on my gold G-P ref 2730.
