There are different product managers within the overall Seiko organization

Grand Seiko has become the halo brand for global expansion at a high price/quality level. In March 2017, Grand Seiko made a fresh start by splitting off from the SEIKO banner to become an independent brand with the aim to stand at the “pinnacle of practical watchmaking” that honors high-precision technology and design. And GS has moved the maximum price point upwards from about $20 to >$50k. When this occurred, the dials changed to feature the “GS” and “Grand Seiko” logo at the 12 o’clock position. Lots of new models and technologies have been added, but the basic "style" philosophy remains the same:

Credor focus is on Asian distribution (perhaps only Japan?) and the style aesthetic is completely different than the image above indicates for GS.

Although these (GS & Credor) watches are still made by the same men and women in the same workshops, they work for product or brand managers seated within different groups in the larger Seiko organization.

It can be confusing!

2019 Baselword Grand Seiko Spring Drive Manual Wind

 By: cazalea : March 21st, 2019-11:14
GS has finally thrown off its shackles and is moving into the rarified air of the Independent Watchmakers. And let me first mention 2 unique things about these watches -- NO power reserve hand and NO date. Can GS Compete with Independents for finishing an...

The R902 has an internal angle!!!

I think I saw that they have his portrait up in their studio!

The finishing is highest end! If I could be sure the spring drive would be serviceable in 30 years (or 50, just to be safe), I would buy one. But, this is an old complaint for Seiko. I do think it's ine they should now address totally given that they are ...

They have addressed it, and I am sorry I didn't repond to your earlier comment about this

In researching, specifically for Grand Seiko, I have read that they are trying to maintain 30 years worth of capability to service the watches. I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation for them to work toward. The following material is about 18 mo...

I appreciate it, Mike!

The folks at the Seiko boutique were not as knowledgeable as you! Thanks!

I recently had a scare on my oldest spring drive

I got this Credor moonphase in 2006 Here's 2009 And again in 2011 and in 2015 when I got a mechanical one from the same series. I have only worn it once around year-end for 10 minutes. Probably it sat for 6 months before that. When I strapped it on a week...

It looks good and, after a little warm-up, runs superlatively!

Not bad for a 13 year old watch!

Thanks Mike for the excellent post!

i have sent an email to the Seiko Boutique in London to place an order for the steel model. I love the fact that it has no date, measures only 38.5mm and is thin by Grand Seiko standards. The fact that it is a limited edition is an added bonus.

I have to if they are only 700 around!! :-)

An attractive price and I love the simplicity and purity of the watch - this will be my first Grand Seiko and I have been looking for a good steel watch so this ticks all the boxes. Even the sunray dial appeals to me!

New steel GS

Thinking of doing the same myself as the SBGY003 ticks so many boxes. How was your experience? The alternative I have is to contact the Wako store in Tokyo who are super great with service and knowledge. Only being shopped early July however I gather.

This will be my first ever Grand Seiko purchase

I have left a 20% deposit with the Seiko London boutique and yes you are right about delivery only beginning in July. I am happy I have waited this long to purchase a Grand Seiko as I had wanted a slim watch and most Grand Seikos I had noticed were on the...

Agreed...

Great dimensions and accuracy. And has a power reserve at the back with beautiful movement! Thanks for info.

I can only wonder what a delight to wear these pieces! Glorious finish, perfect case shape, and fantastic movement. What else should we ask for?

Any live pictures.

That rough finished case looks interesting.

Not yet, just the PR shots

I am thinking

about how skilled the craftsman has to be in order to achieve such a finish in a platinum case. Unbelievable

Credor brad is mentioned. My question is, why are these now branded Grand Seiko and not Credor?

...as an art director/designer and ‘branding guy’ (visually) I would hope GS would revisit the logo. As a westerner, it seems a bit archaic and almost German gothic.
