The Spirate approach involves a "tail" on the balance spring for ease of adjustment and minimization of damage
Mar 05, 2023,22:02 PM
That's important as watches are frequently sent in "not keeping time" and need to be tweaked. Especially with a free-sprung balance wheel with no easy adjusting screw to turn.
But it's claiming 0 to +2 seconds a day, which first, is not quite as tight a spec as the Spring Drives claiming 0 to +1/2 second a day, and secondly, Spring Drive is essentially self-adjusting while Spirate is "easier to adjust".
So I wouldn't say it's a "Spring Drive killer"as it's essentially a tweak of the current approach rather than a fresh sheet of paper as is Spring Drive.
Although it has the advantage of no electronic parts which some people will prefer, it still goes tick tick tick, whereas Spring Drive is totally silent which as Credor notes, is best for minute repeaters and Sonniere.

Would live to see a few other brands in your challenge. Let's see Patek, AP, and ALS as compared to Seiko for accuracy.
This was great.

I can tell you my Breguet 7727 (the 10hz classique), which I adore, is about a 0.5-1s fast a day, so not near a quartz-regulated watch, but not bad!

Great to see that an SD can stand the test of time. What I've been wondering is about durability. I haven't shied away from wearing my SD but I can't say that my lifestyle offers particularly challenging circumstances for the watch. I've been dying to hea...
Indeed it is!

I have several Spring Drives and should do a similar comparison to see how they are doing. My earliest (manual wind Credor) dates to about 2000 and the Snowflake is 2006 or so. No maintenance on either of them but I don't wear them very often now either. ...

. . . of consummation." Should a community member acquire a Spring Drive on account of Pauli's post, please let us know. I'm feeling persuaded myself.
