Seiko x Giugiaro Reissue

This one is definitely not going to be everyone's "cup of tea" but I really like it.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro (BMW M1, DeLorean, original VW Rabbit, Jetta, Scirocco, Passat, and too many others to name here) collaborated with Seiko and created many iconic watch designs.  Among them the "Ripley" and "Bishop" chronographs that were used in James Cameron's film Aliens.  In 1996 Giugiaro designed a line of Seiko watches called Macchina Sportiva which featured organic 1990s design.  This watch is a limited edition reissue of a chronograph from that collection.

Oddly, this reissue is only available in the USA via Macy's.  Go figure, but Macy's apparently has multiple watch companies creating watches exclusively for them including Bulova, Rado, Tissot, Longines(!), and of course Seiko.  Yes, I know it's quartz.  Doesn't really matter to me as the original was as well.

Quick specs:
  • 43 mm Ø
  • 10 bar (100 meter) water resistance
  • Sapphire crystal
  • Silicone rubber strap
  • Chronograph and alarm functions

The 1990s design period really appeals to me aesthetically as I'm also a huge fan of the IWC-Porsche Design collaboration of watches from the same time.

I couldn't help myself and placed my order online.  I'll take my own pictures once the watch arrives.

I've noticed that Macy's does have a respectable assortment of watches that even includes a good selection of what one might call entry level higher end (Movado, Hamilton, Longines etc).

So no GS but they did have some Pressage pieces and they had the Seikos that people want and are hard to find like the PADI diver or the Prospex blue/black dialed divers. Walk downt the mall to JC Penny and they have Seiko but probably not any that you wa...
