I used to own an 8L35-based watch...
...and I had it serviced by my trusted Seiko watchmaker. He told me that at the time Seiko did not provide replacement parts to independents, though. So, in short, unless something changed in the past few years basic service and regulations are OK but if something needs replacing Seiko is your only way.

I don't see a reason for this to go to Japan for service.
I am sure there are many watchmakers that can service the Seiko 8L35
It has been used in the SBDX001 more than 20 years ago. Google search with keyword "SBDX001 movement service" or "8L35 movement service" should give you many reference to choose from. Regards, Indera
