I spoke to a collector who has what he termed a “proof” 6139 from January or February 1969, which he said was the first of the automatic chronographs to be released/sold. He deems it to be very rare and special. Who knows?

From what I remember…
Seiko was already serially producing the movements before Zenith announced the ElPrimero. So in terms of announcement it may have been first but in terms of availability on the market it wasn’t 😊🤷🏻♂️
What I heard was that 6139 powered watches were available to purchase before the El Primero but not globally, initially only in Japan. It seems that Heuer-Buren-Brietling,
Seiko and Zenith all have found a way to claim they were first.
