thoughts on seiko sla043?

When the sla017 62mas re-edition came out several years ago, I intended to buy one and put my order in with my local Seiko AD. For some reason, Seiko never delivered one to the dealer, so I did not get/buy one.

Now, this same dealer actually has a sla043 in stock and I have a chance to buy it -- I plan on looking at it today.

Does anyone have one? What are your thoughts on this blue dial version with powder blue seconds hand?

Also, I am curious on thoughts on the Seiko 8 line movements. This watch has the 8L35 movement. Supposedly, the 8 movements are the same (identical) as the 9 movements used in Grand Seiko but are unregulated (hence the disappointing published accuracy of +15/-10 seconds per day) and are also "less finished" than the 9 line movements.

Given the significant price premium Seiko charges for these 8 movements, why does Seiko not regulate them? Does anyone know? Cazalea, given your Seiko knowledge, do you have any insight let alone personal experience with these 8 line movements?

I appreciate all comments which increase our body of knowledge with regard to these "premium" Seiko watches. M. All pics from Seiko website!

Keeps great time, don't know about the finishing. With their higher end movements seiko tends to under promise and over-deliver. I can't say that I was especially happy when they released the follow up models. I personally prefer the black / gray dial to ...

Nice Choice

I really think Seiko did a great job with the 55th Anniversary collection of watches. I own the SLA039 and appreciate the fact that I waited and these were introduced with the EverBright Steel. It looks amazing, it really does and seems superior in every ...

It’s a great watch. Personally I like the gray dial more than the blue one on this because it’s true to the 62MAS and really incredible in the sunlight. I am disappointed that they have diluted what is otherwise a very special reissue, but that’s sort of ...

my two cents for those who might be curious!

today i did see the sla043 in person, along with the sla037 hi-beat, sla039 hi-beat monobloc and sla041 tuna. the tuna is a beast but actually fits on wrist better than sla039, since due to strap attachment the tuna hugs the wrist whereas the 039 wears mo...
