State of the Collection 2017: Grand Seiko & Credor

 By: cazalea : January 8th, 2017-17:38
Hi guys, At the request of a fellow Purist who recently joined the Grand Seiko ownership club, I am doing a quick review of my Grand Seikos. I think this is all of them, but sometimes there's one laying around the house, so I reserve the right to add extr...

That's a very nice collection of Seiko's best.

I keep thinking about buying a GS. I'm leaning toward the current manual with no date on a bracelet. Best, Martin

Good choice

Obviously I am biased toward light dials with blue hands, but any manual wind GS is a friend of mine. Cazalea

Some might call you an enthusiast...

That\'s an impressive collection my friend! Perhaps we are kindred spirits, if my tea went cold I\'d definitely pivot to the Pinot! I particularly like the anniversary manual wind GS, the font for \'diashock\' and the balance of the watch is great. Jack F...

"A colloquial term used in the USA for invoking the privilege that allows a witness to decline to answer questions where the answers might incriminate him, and generally without having to suffer a penalty for asserting the privilege."

That was something to see! [nt]

That moon phase Credor is something else, wow! Also, am curious with regards to the the Grand Seiko, did you think of adding the 44GS to your collection?

Yes, but

 By: cazalea : January 9th, 2017-07:49
at the time I was working on getting several of the Credors, and I got diverted by renegade Purists into buying a couple watches from other brands... then a Vianney Halter came into my hands. While I was also getting my GO back from an extensive and expen...

This must be one of the most impressive Seiko collections outside of Japan :)

Or worldwide Aspiring to a fraction of it is already a worthy goal!

I will now show the GS models I have loved and lost

Although technically not a GS, this is one of the very first commercially-sold Seiko Spring Drives. I think 500 were made in the late Nineties. It was about 35mm, thin, with a crummy bracelet. But still a milestone. at the time I didn't appreciate it - an...

What happened to the Galante?

 By: KMII : January 9th, 2017-11:34
It must be one of the least discussed Seikos around here. I guess it is the second or third time that I\'ve seen one

I was embarassed to wear it, so thank goodness someone took it off my hands (wrist)

 By: cazalea : January 9th, 2017-12:01
It was just awfully big and clunky and gaudy - too much so, for my taste, anyway. I enjoyed it in concept, but not on my wrist. Here it is next to my 45mm Stowa. Inside a 20mm tall case, it's a normal spring drive movement On the wrist it is a brick, alth...

Certainly very unique. Not my favourite but...

They have a charm of sorts - of the rough kind

I forgot this Credor

 By: cazalea : January 9th, 2017-08:19
Seven hands, day, date, power reserve, automatic It matches the moon phase ...

I'd rather the moonphase anytime!

It's more balanced on the dial---the other dial is rather crowded! Just my two bits! best henry

Thank you very much.

You are the greatest GS collector I know of in the West - also perhaps a gentleman in France - we together may have introduced a few other collectors to the brand, eh? Cazalea
