There is one huge factor that makes this policy stupid and that is people and how inventive we are. There are so many ways that this could go wrong. for example,

What if the dealer loses the proof that you purchased a watch from them (don't laugh, its happened to me before, hence gone to a new dealer) now imagine returning a year later to this dealer and trying to find your receipt that is printed poorly with ink that has nearly disappeared (If you have never made a return to any store in the past 5-10 years you will never have experienced this joy of modern technology).
Or we have an AD enact their own policy not to hand these cards out because it is now environmentally friendly not to cut trees, emit CO2 when making plastic etc etc. and then one day you get to buy the watch but don't get to take possession of it, just visit occasionally and try it on
Companies need to learn that there will always be bad people trying to flip or rip off their product, just because you don't put a piece of plastic inside the packaging won't deter the bad people from doing bad things. Look at currency and how many times governments upgrade security features on it. Unless we can wear the watch in a year and then pay for everything when we are allowed to (at least year's price) should we really take this kind of policy lightly?
