Another strategy by Rolex to clamp on the grey market flippers

Dec 08, 2018,12:27 PM

I was talking to my AD & boutique about the delivery of the Rolex submariner Green Aka Hulk. Iam overwhelmed that it was immediately allocated one without any hassle but they told me that all plastics will be removed and I will get my watch warranty card after a year and this is the new policy. Since I don’t sell watches like these and this is intended to be kept for my son for his future college graduation so Iam ok . I think it’s a great initiative by them . What do you say ? I managed to get a sample of letter which they issue when delivering the watch .

I understand, but I don't understand.

I understand that it is a way to fight against flippers, but I don't understand they don't give the papers when the watch is sold. Not acceptable in my opinion. Best, Nicolas

Wow

Is this a strategy that is implemented by Rolex or by the AD (Watches of Switzerland)? If it’s by Rolex, then this can also backfire and reduce sales to tourists in large cities and airports etc etc

It’s only effective because the customers still buy it.

If the customers walk, they will quickly change their tune.

Agree [nt]

Instead, Rolex should find better ways to control their own dealers from selling to gray market sellers

There is one huge factor that makes this policy stupid and that is people and how inventive we are. There are so many ways that this could go wrong. for example,

What if the dealer loses the proof that you purchased a watch from them (don't laugh, its happened to me before, hence gone to a new dealer) now imagine returning a year later to this dealer and trying to find your receipt that is printed poorly with ink ...

Rogi I hear you and agree .

I was told that they would mail to our original registration address . Also heard that all subs will be out of production and new movement ones will come in effect and higher pricing . Rumours or what but everything is possible with rolex. I bought Rolexe...

What is is this? Reversed communism??

Now an all mighty luxury brand is going to decide who will be able to show his capitalist abilities? Listen, this is marketing game well played by Rolex sa. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is not reasonable.

What if the customer moved, get sick, or pass away within a year? What if the AD became bankrupt, building caught fire, moved location, or salesman kept sloppy paperwork and got the cards mixed up, lost them etc? We paid good money for a new Rolex. A lot ...

Very happy for you, but...

this situation is preposterous. The concept of purchasing a product outright is that you own the product; Rolex doesn’t lease or rent out watches. If I were to buy a steel sport Rolex, it’s my right to do with it what I please, whether that’s wearing it, ...
