Thanks Simone, I saw that a few days ago as it even made it into the front page of "la Repubblica" and other national newspapers (unlike many other crimes that take place in Napoli or in the rest of Italy, I would add ;-)

Let's wait and see what really happened, that's what the court system is for. How about if he was chasing the criminals and they lost control without being hit? If they were hit but unintentionally? We just don't know, and I don't think journalists should decide what happened only because they know how to write a story in a comic English ;-)
Having our watches stolen would be one of the worst nightmares for any of us, even more so if this happens as a consequence of a violent crime. All I understand so far about this incident is that the victim of a crime was desperate to get his watch back. I do hope he didn't commit any crimes that evening, and I also hope his beloved watch will be returned to him ;-)
I think we should have also sympathy for the families of the two people who died that evening, no matter who they were.
