Contemplating the weekend ahead and why I enjoy the modern vintage “Pepsi” so much. It’s one that I have owned for many years and have enjoyed sparingly but increasingly over the past few months. Was this a golden era for Rolex ? Best Captain ...  

It came from the era when the AD and Rolex treated customers with respect and dignity, for that reason alone I would class it as a golden era. Best Captain

By coincidence I’m wearing a GMT today and probably will keep it during the weekend. Ref 16750 from 1986. Hand set is original but for some reason I have observed that both these watches and ref 5513 of same era handsets do not get same patina as indexes....

Was there something specific that made you wear it that much more recently?

In no particular order… The overall dimensions, the fact it’s not a shiny new Rolex, the colours and the subtlety of the aluminium bezel, the patina of the lume pots and the hands.

For Rolex as a company the golden era startet with social media, when a broader audience was reachable or a bigger audience became aware of Rolex sports models. Hence the change by Rolex to more "mass appeal" watches in their design. For the collector the...
