Rolex Day Date question…

 

Ever since I saw a yellowgold Rolex Day Date 36 mm with a white dial with Roman numerals for the first time over 30 years ago, it has   become a sort of grail watch for me. Last September Rolex added the white dial with Roman numerals to their catalogue for the 36 mm Day Date and yesterday I got the chance to see it real life for the first time and too be honest: I loved it! But because I just bought an Aquanaut a few months ago I don’t have the money to buy the Day Date. I do still own a Yachtmaster with the rhodium dial and a GMT BLNR with the jubilee bracelet and today I went to a dealer to see if I can sell them to get some money to be able to buy the Day Date. And this always happens to me, as soon as I am about to sell a watch I get cold feet. I love the Yachtmaster, more even than the GMT which I hardly wear. But here it comes, they offered me less than I wanted for the two watches and so I decided not to sell them but to keep them, because I don’t want to loose money on watches which are not easy to get nowadays. After all, the yellowgold Day Date is not really a watch that is in high demand. But what if the dealer calls me back and he agrees on my price? My question to you is: would you sell a YM and GMTblnr to be able to buy a Day Date….? Or keep the much more popular GMT and beautiful YM?

I recently purchased the blue dial YM and of course, prior to buying I went on a hunt online to read about it as much as I could. Across forums I saw a handful of people regret selling their YMs often saying it was their most comfortable watch and had som...

And it is spot on what you say about the YM being very comfy on the wrist, especially compared to the GMT. And your suggestion of looking at pre owned I will surely take into consideration. So thank you very much!

Your best option is selling it yourself but I would wait a little bit and see what the market does. I doubt it goes down. Perhaps contact known grey dealers if they can source you a new DD and see what's possible when you trade it in. Do they still discou...

Amazing what 5 years does to the market. Easy 5-8k discounts are completely gone on the DD.

But thanks for your reply, because i recognize regretting having sold some watches (thankfully not all). Now i have to figure out whether i will regret letting the opportunity to buy the DD go by…i think because the DD is not as hard to get it will be ok....

attention did it for me. That’s exactly one of my fears that will happen and spoil the fun of owning or even wearing a DD. Come to think of it, two years ago I almost got mugged wearing a GMT Pepsi in Amsterdam and that made me decide to change it for a Y...

dealer was checking the Yachtmaster and saying it looked really nice I couldn’t help but agreeing with him that indeed that YM looks really nice (so why in the hell would I want to sell it😬) so the doubt started right there and then…

It’s clear you’ve listed after it, so that’s the not the question. So I’m asking a more practical one, will you or can you wear it day to day? I’m assuming the YM and the GMT are easily worn in your daily situations. For me, as much as I loved the coloure...

I will wear the DD every day. Actually it is a watch that really makes you consider where you ‘can’ wear it and where not (certain neighbourhoods, occasions or in certain meetings with clients I could not see myself wearing it). It’s a watch that attracts...
