Rolex case back stamping VI what does it mean.

The question was raised recently by Nicolas about the significance of the VI stamp.  Many have always equated this with quarter of the year I, II , III etc. as it would seem logical and acceptable conclusion.  I mentioned that I had previously heard the correct meaning which I went back to the source and confirmed.

It was explained that this marking is simply a batch reference batch one=I and batch two stamping is=II it really just about the production of the casebacks.  If they made more they simply incremented the batch number in higher production years.

So while quarters seem logical it is actually a production batch.

Rolex case back VI is a batch reference.
