Ok, I know it’s not a legitimate diver, given the silver case, but my tastes have always leaned towards the more formal (PP, VC, ALS), and I honestly have no need for a true dive watch. But I decided to expand my horizons a bit with something less delicate than my existing watches, and this BB58 925 really caught my eye. I love the muted colors - the taupe dial and the brushed silver look fantastic together in my opinion. I know that silver is softer than steel so this watch will surely pick up dings and scratches, but I’m not going to worry about any of that. It will be the watch I wear when I don’t want to worry about anything. Like others, I am curious to see how it will tarnish. I do wish Tudor had kept the closed caseback because the exhibition back adds unwelcome thickness (almost 1mm more than the standard BB58) and the movement is nothing special to look at. I was a bit surprised to find initially that the watch was not easy to locate. I first tried a large AD in NY and was told they had no idea whether they would get anymore in stock, so I added myself to a waitlist. But then while shopping for Christmas gifts, I randomly came across the watch in a small suburban mall jewelry store that is an AD for Tudor. I had been debating whether I preferred the fabric or leather strap versions, but the store only had this one watch so I picked it up. The fabric actually wears better than I expected and I like the stripe down the middle. Interestingly, the salesperson told me to avoid aftermarket straps on this model, because the chemicals in the strap can interact badly with the silver. He said Tudor created special straps for the 925 to solve this issue. I have no idea whether this is true, but for now until I learn otherwise, I’ll probably stick to the Tudor straps.
