It represented my first foray into Rolex and the culmination of a dream after being bombarded with explorer II pics from Time and Newsweek during high school. It was heavily used, seen a lot of travels, etc. So I thought that moving it along was never going to happen. I sold my car, an unremarkable 4 pot Mitsubishi Lancer, to fund it for heaven’s sake
But then after 18 years of ownership, it gradually lost its appeal a few years going into 2022. I felt that I’ve sucked the marrow of enjoyment out of it. I would wear it on occasion to force myself to fall in love with it relying on sentimentality to rekindle it. Normally, it would have just sat in the box, which it actually did for a time, but then a friend of mine was in a feverish search for a 5 digit white polar exp2 and the rest was history. I’m quite lazy when it comes to selling but I took the ease by which I could find it a new home a sign that it was time for somebody to enjoy my watch the way that it should be enjoyed. It was also that time when Rolex steel sports mania was on its last legs. In the absence of serendipity, I probably would have had it still.
I’d check myself from time to time for seller’s remorse like I had with my Milgauss white but always find myself fondly remembering it but not missing it.
Here she is, gone but never to be forgotten..
