...one more for the pre-Dayto without 1/10 sec hesitation. But I wonder : are "we" (=Purists) normal ? How come we ALL prefer the vintage version to the modern version ? Are we the only ones having good taste on earth ? How come Rolex manage to sell plent... 

For these ones without knowledge and involvement the marketing is the primary factor for their decision. Count as well the media and the availability of boutiques. Et la vouala!

However Mike's consideration is really interesting, intelligent and I am sure many (if not every) Purists is wondering why Rolex sells its current model extremely well. I think that three main reasons bring a person to buy a new model instead a vintage on... 

Reference vintage, unless you absolutely know what you are buying, and who from..... Be careful, very careful.....lotsa fakes, repros, treated. Buy Omega Speedies.... Alot less fakes and equally fun. Best, horo

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Platinum Daytona myself. Trading two existing watches and a little cash. This will remain in my collection forever.

You could have a lot of fun dressing up or down with it. The Old Daytona says I'm into watches, but the message will only be heard by other, more established collectors.
