I agree. And this was a long time ago.
I think the SD was even more rarely seen then. I definitely didn’t recall seeing many, any, around in several years after buying this.
Yes. The no cyclops was the key.
At that time I didn’t like the Sub Date or GMT because of the cyclops. I thought this was much cleaner. But of course, as a relatively new watch buyer I did need a date ! 😂

Maybe it has something to do w the lug taper being slightly longer than subs of the same era. Either way, it’s a great piece and I see the pip showing some age 👌🏽
Yes, it does fit better than the Subs of that era.
When I bought it did appear smaller on my wrist, and this was a factor. You’re right, it’s not obvious in the pictures but the pip is showing it’s age for sure.
It’s somewhat banged up if you look closely.
I have a small chip on the crystal (for more than 20 years) and the insert has some scratches. But the case is fairly clean. Re the hands, they should be. The watch was never serviced !

At the time I didn't like the cyclops either 😉
I do recall a slight discount also, but that was more due the businesses in that area always giving each other and each other’s staff discounts.
Kinda like a friends and family thing. It was a small town and everyone knew everyone.
