Your watch looks like a reference made in around 1960/61 so serial number should be around 6xx,xxx.
Regrettably numbers between lugs can be erased by the rubbing with loose end links, which looks like it happened in your friend´s watch. They are important as they can give a hint definitively.
You should try to open the screw back. You may ask this to a friendly watchmaker as it is needed an appropiate tool. Inside the lid you should find the reference number and the quarter and year of production of the watch.

If your watch is a Reference 6305 it is a bit earlier circa 1953/1956 and serial number should be much lower than what I suggested above. Definitively best thing to do is to open the case.
