When i first joined this forum 2 years ago i knew nothing about Rolex other than some of the bad press associated with the 'bling' types who buy them. i was even under the misplaced impression that they used ETA calibres and the Submariner was no better t...  

and thanks for the great post, which illustrates that with a little bit of passion and knowledge you can wear a great looking vintage Rolex - with a high grade chronometer movement and a bulletproof oyster case - for the price of a dinner in a good restau...

Jeff, the watches are great for that year, but the prices are bad. i looked at one which looked original and had a heart attack. when my Longines Minute Repeater is serviced and sold i might well have money to buy one, but so many other priorities......aa...

Hi Graham, I have been away for a while but it’s nice to come back to see such a great watch added to your ’64 collection. I wouldn’t describe myself as a ‘Rolex kinda guy’ either, but I am trying to break from the stereotypes, and there is no better way ... 

I should have started reading posts from where I left off 3 weeks ago, but I am working backwards and just read your serial number discussions below. I had the same difficulty as you. A lot of misinformation out there. It’s a pity Rolex itself doesn... 

Andrew, dating is difficult and dr Strong will be the one to advise on this. many, but not all Rolexes have a year date in the caseback with the 4 quarters. ie mine is IV.64 indicating it was made in the 4th quarter of 1964. it has a 1.2mil serial number ... 

nice catch and wear it well. Question for you - 38mm or 42mm and you know what I'm talking about..?? The actual face is the same size just the difference in case....help..!! Andy.

From one 64er to another!! I've been itching for a vintage Rolex circa 64 as well...just being sentimental....i am in the reading and research stage now and who knows maybe you will receive an annoying pm from me one dsy... (and to dr strong too...!) chee... 

thanks SH. i'm not sure i'm the right person to ask for advice as all mine came from Dr Strong. i know virtually nothing about Rolex. i'm very pleased with it, only about 2 secs a day slow, looks good, is a perfect addition to my collection of 64 classics...
