Blue Hand on a Platinum Day-Date

Sep 03, 2024,20:25 PM

I recently looked at a Platinum Day-Date with the ice blue “checked” dial. Unlike others I had seen in the past, this one has a blue seconds hand. I have no reason to believe the watch didn’t come this way, but I was surprised. Did this watch come with either a silver or blue hand? Comparison shot below (dials are same color, just different lighting). Thanks!

I like the look of the blue hand. Would you have any concerns?

The blue hand goes with the new, fluted bezel. It does not go with the earlier, smooth bezel.

This is a problem. Do not purchase.

Never saw one before!

I'm a little concerned that you haven't seen this combination before. I know the dial well. And I know that Rolex does blue seconds hands on other platinum Day-Dates. And I have every reason to believe this is totally legitimate. But the lack of familiari...

Thanks! That's comforting.

And the blue hand makes it a bit more casual.

I prefer it in blue!

Interesting that the blue seconds hand

is only offered on the ice blue or light blue dial. It’s not on any other platinum Day-Date dial offering.

Wonderful!

Really appreciate everyone’s responses! From the responses, it’s clear that Rolex sometimes uses a blue seconds hand with an otherwise silver-colored hand set on platinum Day-Dates. Nearly all of the examples cited—and all of the references to Rolex’s web...

It would help to know the exact reference of the one with blued seconds hand.

For example, many people were concerned about my DD36 which was on an Oyster bracelet. However, that is the OEM combination for the 118238-0110. Sometimes Rolex does things like that that end up accounted for in references that are out of the norm. ...

Smooth DD 40 with blue hand was produced

For one year only, ending the era of the smooth bezel. I got mine with silver hands in 2021 when the blue hands was already announced.

Mine, too
