The bakelite insert seems odd. The depth and color both bother me. E

I am certain the insert is aftermarket .. Is this a pussy galore?

By: tick tock doctor : May 31st, 2015-11:31
Hello The insert is plastic and held in with glue. You both have a eye for detail. Kind regards Anthony

I don't think any seller would have presented this watch as having an authentic bakelite.

 By: Bill : May 31st, 2015-11:43
But you need to dig deeper. A bakelite bezel is worth 20-30k or more. If the seller was selling the watch at 25k then he knew what he had. If he was asking for 65k then you need to think on the seller a little. Also please note an authentic correct dial w...

Any extra info would help like serial range, caseback date, matt / glossy etc.

Most of the time it is the lighting and the angles that give miss leading info. Like the Mercedes hour hand. But at the end of the day it is the seller that you need to count on. Bill

Good insight Bill...

Some numbers case number 3561XX Caliber 1036 Movement number. DN7747XX I think the Watch precedes the movie. Anthony

Ok that puts in a 1958 range.

 By: Bill : May 31st, 2015-12:11
Case back should have a 58 dated case back. Now the movement I can't really say anything. The rest is a little hard based on the pictures. But the puzzle comes together as you add color. Bill

we are splitting hairs between 57/58

 By: Bill : May 31st, 2015-12:42
But we are still missing a little the parameters. The dial is hard to see in these examples and the crown has an odd shape. But that is not to say not good. If the case back is 1959 / 60 too late and then you start to see is there some assembly. But again...

Here is a photo of the inside case back.

You mean Remove the dial from the watch? Looking for feet?

 By: Bill : June 1st, 2015-22:48
I am curious if there is a "-" between "Oyster-Perpetual" of just "Oyster Perpetual". Not sure if Anthony is in a position dis assemble the watch? Bill

Yes, just to check the lack of feet and the presence of the " skirt " all around the dial.

Anthony can do it. He services movements. Best, Nicolas

The crown is a modern replacement..

It is hard to speculate without seeing the watch in person.

 By: Bill : June 1st, 2015-21:04
I have seen a watch in the same serial range and the crown was different. Now that is not to say this one is wrong. It could have been assembled later or it could have had a dial replaced by Rolex. It is hard to speculate. But as we have said previously h...

A little information...(Back story)

Hello Bill It was a gift from a wife, after husband commented that he thought he would like a Rolex. She told him, her Father used to have a Rolex and retreived it from his stored items. Then he brought it in for an estimate to repair(not running), it has...

Just curious as to who added the aftermarket Insert. The previous owner i.e. the dad

 By: Bill : June 3rd, 2015-10:37
Or did the watch have this insert for years prior. Thanks for the info. Bill

Borrowed this picture from Stefano who always is a great resource for the Rolex GMT. Observe the Rolex crown in this example and the hands. Just as a way for you who has the watch in your hand to look for similarities. Bill Photo credit : Stefano Mazzario...

Ummmmm.....Am I the only one here that sees this dial is fake?

 By: fumanku : June 7th, 2015-23:48
Not only is the bezel AM, but the dial is a fake as well. Probably bought both of them from the same vendor in Vietnam.

you are not alone ... LOL LOL LOL

 By: marcello pisani : June 8th, 2015-04:07
dial and insert are obviously blatant fakes. case ( if genuine ) is from the beginning of 1958.

Just being Polite.

 By: Bill : June 8th, 2015-07:50
Showing a correct dial was a firm hint.

here you have the 4 different versions .....

was just being polite in saying that's likely a fake LOL Gosh, you folks have amazing depth and knowledge ! Am pleased to find such standard here too !

I tried to give some examples of a correct dial to show something was amiss
