. . . as a few feet from Indy cars at speed. It was during the '73 California 500 at Ontario Motor Speedway; I managed to pass thru the security gate and get up right next to the track wall for a few minutes before being ordered back to my seat. In those few minutes, I managed to see dozens of cars whizzing past, but could never hold my gaze directly, as I instinctively turned away just before the oncoming rush. Didn't have to blink to miss them passing by - survival instincts did the trick!
