I think unlike any other city I’ve ever been, Tokyo loves the umbrella.  When it rains here everyone, I mean everyone, has an umbrella.

This is not something I’ve experienced anywhere else.

So on that theme, a few pictures from yesterday when it rained pretty much all day.

This one didn’t really work, but you can see what I was going for.

Daily life.

Bustling Shibuya.

Dressed for the weather really just means umbrella.

First playing with the camera to see what I could do, without it being too shaky (was just holding it). Then just waiting for people.

Same here.

The mask mandate was only dropped here on Monday (13th).

That’s why. I feel this week it’s about 70% masks outdoors, 90% indoors and 99% on public transport. Remember, life was pretty normal here for the last three years and people here routinely wear masks.

I too like the first one!

Love the clear ones...

...only about five bucks when we were there. The best part is, when it rains, every store has a stand with plastic bags to wrap up your umbrella so it doesn't drip everywhere : )

Nice photos

Lovely pics

With so many umbrellas there are protocols.

Thanks for the photos. Brings back memories. Here are some things peopleo do with their umbrellas when not in use. It's all well thought out. With so many umbrellas there is no choice. Secure Umbrellas Stowage - Kyoto Umbrella Dryer - Tokyo Office ...

Top Shot

The blur makes it particularly interesting. Take a look at a famous series of photographs by Ernst Haas of a bullfight if you’ve not seen them.

the first shot is my favorite!

It's showing movement, some time passing, and all those umbrellas. Great shot.

au contraire ...

In my opinion that first shot works quite well. Rain in the Tokyo forecast for later this week, although this morning (Spring Equinox) broke sunny and warm, maybe a good day for blossom viewing \(ツ)/ I was in Shibuya a few days ago and lots of constructio...

Thanks Casey.

My dissatisfaction is really down to the unsteady had and the slight blur in the background, maybe it’s not that noticeable. And also, I’d tried to get the same shot at the Shibuya crossing but couldn’t find a good spot. So thins was the next best thing a...
