John, thanks for your input as always...
I am not going to give up my day job to photograph watches anytime soon ;-).
The test shot of the Cartier Tank Française Yearling might showcase my post processing skills... where I tend to have a preference for understatement. Here is an example with different rendering, a public image from one of the trade shows.

Sorry about using that example... I still believe that in the right situation the technique can be useful... I have to work on my examples ;-)

I find that this method under lights the dial in the photos that you have shown. The disappearing background is impressive, but I think that this goes to prove that photography requires an eye and not a formula. Best, John
