I tend to agree with the choice as the colors are toned down and dark, but naturally so.
It reads better
As a black and white as the color really doesn’t add anything. The photo is balanced without it so no need to have it.

Concerning my early commute: luckily in these modern times it's only once or twice a week, and I leave early mainly to enjoy time with my baby boy in the afternoon. So I am relaxed enough to make these photos
